A lasagna battery is a galvanic cell that’s accidentally created when salty lasagna is stored in a steel pan and covered with aluminum foil. The foil develops holes where it touches the lasagna, and the food corrodes.

You made a Sourkrout battery. Throw it out and store it in glass next time

  2. PinkPoncho3

i think id say no? unless you like the zing of alluminium if you know what im sayin

  3. Scary-Physics-5303

Too lates guys I eated it, will update soon, if I die I die with a tummy full of sauerkraut, which is all anyone can really ask for. 🫡💪🦅‼️🔥

  4. oldpaintunderthenew

Yeah no, acid and aluminium are not a good combo

  5. Finalshock

That pan looks like carbon steel, and sourkraut is acidic. Aluminum foil on top – You made a battery. Do not eat the kraut.

  6. poofandmook

The problem is you used sourkrout and not sauerkraut.

  7. gordonbrowns

Wait, Sauerkraut in a cast iron pan? Doesn’t that ruin the pan like they say tomatoes would?

  8. MoreImportance5541

High aluminium uptake is correlated to Alzheimer’s in new studies. I wouldn’t eat it if i were you.

And sauerkraut costs what 50 cent a pound?

  9. Why are you storing or making sauerkraut in CAST IRON. You’re ruining the seasoning of the pan AND your kraut. Toss.

  10. MagnanimousMarsupial

I would not eat aluminum foil no…

  11. Scared_Sound_783

“Bro, it’s just spicy bro, calm down.”

  12. Novem_bear

Aluminum is definitely toxic. You shouldn’t eat it.

That said, if you already ate it, we’re about to find out.

Edit: As others pointed out, it’s not entirely toxic it’s primarily linked to Alzheimers and potentially cancer. So TIL but OP, should actually be fine but I don’t think I’d want to risk it personally. OP please answer if you develop Alzheimers and we can get this settled. Remind me in 40 years

  13. unclejoe1917

Normally, I’m a “fuck it, just eat it” guy, but I’d probably pass on this one.

  14. Short-Mood-6730

LOL letting sour kraut ferment in a cast iron pan is rancid dude. Please ask google before you do.

  15. ShakenEspresso98

Aluminum can be toxic in high amounts and can transfer to food so I definitely would not

  16. DoubleSynchronicity

I don’t know if it’s aluminum talking but it’s “I ate it” not “eated it”. Just pointing out cause you used it several times, OP. And don’t eat melted aluminum or plastic next time, they are not good for you.

  17. RaidriConchobair

uh oh, please dont, im not too versed in chemistry but the sauerkraut reacted chemically with the aluminum foil, i would rather toss it then eating what is basically pieces of aluminum foil that are dissolved

  18. les_catacombes

Sauerkraut should be stored in a glass jar. Why are you using cast iron and aluminum foil?!?

  19. So you saw all the dissolved aluminum that has to be in the sauerkraut, posted on Reddit for answers, yet you still ate the food within 10 minutes of posting? Truly low IQ, attention-seeking behavior

  20. Chiopista

Before you throw it out, see if you can light up a potato with it.

  21. guimontag

You put two on different metals against each other with a giant body of acidic material in between them? Do people not learn chemistry in school anymore?

  22. I’ve always spelt it “sauerkraut” is this a regional thing?

  23. Bismarck_MWKJSR

???? No? Shredded aluminum is like the top tier reason for appendicitis developing from outside sources. Toss that shit out

  24. TheLiminalSpace

Asking if it’s still okay to eat is hilarious to me brotha you’ve got shaved foil in your kraut lmao

  25. Crafty-Complex6914

I wouldnt unless you want your teeth to scream at your brain.
